What is C-P-P?

 C-P-P is a framework in that it lays out a structured approach for analyzing events, trends and changes, internal and external, with a bearing on the ability of an organization to achieve stated objectives. 

 What do we mean by a framework?

A framework is a set of rules that in this case define a structural approach for evaluating and breaking down events, trends and other change producing factors into qualifiable and quantifiable variables.  The process begins with a core set of C-P-P variables, which have been found through research and analysis to play an important part in thoroughly characterizing the event, trend or change agent.  To this set are added other factors, many of which are obtained from the organization of interest.

Why is C-P-P referred to as a contextual framework?

The framework is said to be contextual because, while it is consistent, its strength is due in large part to its adaptability to specific conditions, environments and circumstances.  It other words, the conditions under which it is applied and to which it adapts define the context for its application.  This is critically important because once in place, it can be used and adapted over time based on contextual changes.  For example, an engagement may begin during times of economic prosperity and peace, but, as witnessed in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, quickly change into one of economic downturn and conflict.  The framework itself would not change, but evaluation, analysis and response would, guiding management to continued effectiveness and success.

 How did C-P-P come about?

 C-P-P evolved in the aftermath of 9/11 as we attempted to analyze a variety of different facets of business, governance, military and paramilitary conflict.  During periods when events, conditions and operational realities are in a dynamic state of change, it is easy to get trapped attempting to address each context with a different method.  What was needed was a framework that would remain stable, even as underlying factors and variables changed.  This was the genesis of C-P-P.

 Where and how has it been used?

 The best way to learn about its applicability is by reviewing the White Snippets page, which summarizes its application to a variety of circumstances.  It should be noted that while C-P-P as an entity is new; its underlying concepts are not.  Our team had been utilizing C-P-P concepts for many years, but had not brought them under a common, integrated structure.  We now have!

 Is C-P-P like other management philosophies and in-vogue fads?

 No!  C-P-P is not a philosophy or fad.  C-P-P is a contextual framework that adds a new dimension to leadership and decision-making, delivering a fully integrated approach to organizational excellence.  The C-P-P framework works at the highest organizational levels by ensuring that internal and external developments, events and other factors are evaluated in light of the leadership’s vision.    It is then deployed across organizationa levels and domains to provide a cogent, conherent and integated contextual framework. C-P-P expands the scope of executive decision-making beyond the traditional Compete and Perform paradigms.  In today’s world competing and performing are no longer sufficient.  Visionary executives must also ensure that their organization effectively Protect critical assets, its position, credibility and ability to compete and perform.

 C-P-P does not force you to give up a favorite management strategy, method or philosophy.  When properly implemented, C-P-P maximizes the effectiveness of a good management approach or philosophy by ensuring that it is applied within a consistent and cogent, yet dynamic structure.  C-P-P is a structured yet dynamic approach that provides stability and the means to measure results over time, even as other aspects of the organization change. This is a key difference in C-P-P, and a distinct benefit to the corporate executive.

 Does C-P-P require the use of consultants, custom systems and tools over a long period of time?

 Generally, there is no need for long term embedding of consultants or the deployment of major systems and toolsets.  The C-P-P framework is engineered to facilitate its adoption and implementation and our team focuses on mentoring internal resources so that they will become the best C-P-P practitioners for their operational contexts.  SDS offers training, mentoring and guidance in the design and implementation of effective performance metrics.  While we can design and tailor information processing and reporting systems based on those metrics, we can also work with the client’s IT organization to help them implement metrics and reporting in-house.  Thus, support and some extended mentoring may be needed for a period of time, but it will soon shift to case by case requests focused on issues such as major changes in operations, unexpected events or trends and circumstances where external input would provide important distinctions for solving specific challenges.
