Our Business Process Analysis (BPA) and Decision Flow Analysis (DFA) services are designed to reveal the processes within the client organization directly and indirectly related to the project. Almost all services provided by SDS include some form of process identification, mapping and analysis, although the depth can range significantly depending on the nature of the engagement. A BPA conducted in support of a C-P-P engagement goes beyond traditional BPAs by focusing on those aspects of the organization functionally and contextually required by the framework.

An important distinction between traditional PBAs and C-P-P based ones is the extensive use of Decision Flow mapping and analysis. This extension to more limited BPAs focuses on the manner in which decisions are made, which factors are considered at different organizational levels, the sources of information, the level to which external information is used by the leadership, metrics involved in the validation of the decisions and how executive decisions are transmitted and implemented by the rest of the organization. Decision Flow Analysis has been successfully used by SDS to analyze decision-making by terrorist groups, the flow and efficacy of directions in environments involving collaborative relationships by organizations and contractors and other contexts in business and government.

BPAs and DFAs play important roles beyond the initial assessment by revealing the degree and efficacy of the organization's performance measures and decision feedback loops. C-P-P is built around the notion that decisions must be based on solid, accurate information, must be efficiently transmitted and associated objectives monitored to ensure that they are effectively pursued. BPAs and DFAs provide a benchmark on how prepared the organization is for C-P-P implementation and what steps need to be taken to ensure that its effects are measured against a standard. Moving beyond strict C-P-P engagements, BPAs and DFAs play equally important roles in the design and development of information systems, including databases. These assessment and analysis techniques provide the information necessary to develop effective specifications, including business rules necessary to ensure data quality. Finally, BPAs and DFAs play a crucial role in our ability to deliver our services within the Thorough and Urgent Delivery (TUD) approach described on the right column. It is the information obtained through our BPA/DFA processes that empower the team to deliver early improvements and returns, while a comprehensive solution is being developed in parallel.

SDS has been conducting BAPs for over twenty years and DFAs for over a decade. As previously mentioned, our efforts have been applied in a variety of contexts, including terrorism. An important application of BPAs and DFAs is in defining the Solution Sets, which SDS employs to match the customer's needs to services and products, which are then dividually and collectively tailored to address those needs.

Custom Solution Sets and TUD
Simplicity's Custom Solution Sets concept is built on our company's established record in management consulting and software development.  Implemented using the Thorough and Urgent Delivery (TUD) approach described below, Custom Solution Sets offer our clients fast, cost effective implementation of C-P-P, services and information technology solutions.  They are particularly effective in situations, where a limited solution is required without delay, often with limited time for validation and testing. SDS uses a variety of cutting edge technologies to deliver on TUD's promise in areas related to database management.

A typical Solution Set Implementation can take as little as two weeks.  In cases were a solution set requires more extensive development efforts, they can be implemented in phases.  This approach allows components to be deployed sooner, while other components are still in development, validation and testing.  Once deployed, Solution Sets can be quickly modified in response to market trends and changing business requirements.

Delivering Value, Faster!
Since 1989, SDS has been researching methods for delivering solutions faster and with greater quality. Our research involved a variety of tools and strategies, which initially focused on rapid development of software and databases. Over the past five years, the research coallesed around a philosophy and approach that extended beyond IT and software to expert services and management consulting. Working with AC Macris Consultants, the philosophy and approach were stardized under what we refer to as the Thorough and Urgent Delivery (TUD) method. TUD delivers accelerated ROI realization through a variety of means, including:

  1. Ensuring that benefits accrue from the earliest possible point in the engagement process,
  2. Leveraging prototyping and early deployment to validate requirements and expectations,
  3. Employing highly productive tools in areas related to information technology and performance metrics delivery,
  4. Reducing costs and the ensuring effective communications between the client and SDS teams.

In practice, TUD can deliver almost immediate returns by contributing to more effective decision making, analysis and implementation.
